Forest guard sought permission to commit suicide: body found in house a few days later, mention of harassment in suicide note, copy also sent to Forest Minister and Forest Conservator

Sharad Pathak, Chhindwara. A forest guard posted in the former forest division of the district had applied to the district collector and forest conservator a month ago for permission to commit suicide. A month later, his body was recovered from his house. According to the police, the body was about 5-6 days old and had completely decomposed.

Forest guard Lodhi Omprakash Verma was found dead in his house in Shrivastav Colony. According to Dharm Tekdi police station, a foul smell was coming from his house, and when the police went there and investigated, his body was found there. The police have registered a case and started investigating the matter. According to the police, the body was about 5 days old and had decayed badly.

I have not received salary for 9 months

In the application for permission to commit suicide, the deceased forest guard Lodhi Omprakash Verma has accused two divisions, including Western Forest Division Chhindwara and Forest Division Production Officer Chhindwara, of officially harassing him. In the charge sheet, he has alleged harassment by suspending him, stopping salary increment and not giving the deducted salary and time scale pay benefits during the suspension period since 2017. He has been transferred four times in the last one and a quarter years. He had not received salary for the last 9 months. The application form bears the receipt seal of the Forest Conservator’s Office dated 6 June 2024 and the Collector’s Office. A copy has also been sent to both Rural Development Ministry Prahlad Patel and Chief Conservator Chhindwara.

Wife and children were not with him

According to the information received from the neighbours, the forest guard had started drinking alcohol due to mental harassment. Financial problems had made his family lonely. According to the sources, Om Prakash was seen by his mother on the 8th, his children and wife were not with him for a few days. Information was received from Harrai’s Salaiya Timber Head Vikas Mishra that Lodhi Omprakash Verma was posted in the timber yard but his presence was very less because he used to keep visiting offices due to his problems.
