In a scathing attack on the ruling Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, former Chief Minister Jayaram Thakur has declared that law and order has completely broken down under Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s administration. Speaking at a public rally in Mandi district, Thakur painted a grim picture of the state, where mafia elements are allegedly running rampant, instilling fear among ordinary citizens.
Thakur accused the Sukhu government of failing on its most basic duty: maintaining peace and security. ‘The streets that once felt safe are now dominated by goons and criminals,’ he thundered, citing a spate of recent incidents including extortion rackets, land grabbing, and violent clashes linked to organized crime syndicates. He pointed to specific cases where police inaction has emboldened these elements, leaving businesses and residents vulnerable.
The BJP leader didn’t hold back on the government’s response, labeling it as weak and appeasement-driven. ‘Instead of cracking down on mafias, the administration is busy shielding its cronies,’ Thakur alleged, referencing reports of political patronage to dubious figures. He urged the people to rise against this ‘mafia raj’ and promised a return to strong governance under BJP rule.
As tensions simmer in the hill state, Thakur’s remarks have sparked a fresh political slugfest. Congress leaders have dismissed his claims as desperate electioneering, but the rising crime statistics seem to lend credence to the opposition’s narrative. With by-elections looming, the debate over Himachal’s security landscape is set to intensify, forcing the Sukhu regime to defend its record amid growing public discontent.
