A landslide near Jangalchatti on the Kedarnath Yatra route in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, resulted in the deaths of two porters from Jammu and Kashmir and injuries to three others, including a pilgrim from Gujarat. The incident occurred Wednesday morning, around 11:20 am, when debris from the landslide caused individuals to fall into a deep gorge. Rescue operations were quickly launched by the NDRF, SDRF, local police, and the District Disaster Response Force. The deceased porters have been identified as Nitin Kumar and Chandrashekhar. The injured individuals, Sandeep Kumar, Nitin Manhas, and Akash Chitriya, were promptly rescued and taken to Gaurikund Hospital for treatment. This incident highlights the risks associated with the Kedarnath Yatra route, especially during the monsoon. The administration has urged pilgrims to be cautious and follow safety guidelines. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy rainfall in the region, including an orange alert for specific districts on June 21 and 22.
