In a tragic incident that has once again highlighted the intense pressure on medical entrance exam aspirants, an 18-year-old girl from Madhya Pradesh, preparing for NEET in Rajasthan’s Kota, allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison. The incident occurred in the Dadabadi police station area late on February 13.

The student had been staying in Kota for the past three months to attend coaching classes. According to police reports, around 10 PM, she ingested a poisonous substance, after which she began vomiting profusely. In distress, she repeatedly told those around her that she had made a mistake and pleaded for help.

Her landlord and fellow students rushed her to a private hospital, but despite medical efforts, she succumbed to the poison. The body was sent for post-mortem, and later handed over to her grieving family who arrived from Madhya Pradesh.

Dadabadi SHO Baldev Ram confirmed that the girl was in Kota specifically for NEET preparation. A relative studying in the same city recounted how her condition deteriorated rapidly after taking the poison. Other residents of the house noticed her plight, alerted the landlord, who then contacted her family and arranged for immediate medical aid.

The victim’s brother revealed a surprising detail: she had previously attended NEET coaching in Kota but returned home of her own accord three months ago. He insisted she was not under study stress and was performing well in her exams. ‘We spoke to her that very evening, and she seemed perfectly normal,’ he added, leaving the family baffled by the cause.

Police are investigating the matter, awaiting the post-mortem report for further clues. This heartbreaking event adds to the growing list of student suicides in Kota, prompting renewed calls for better mental health support in coaching hubs.

As the city known as India’s coaching capital grapples with yet another loss, questions arise about the toll of competitive exam pressures on young minds. Authorities urge students and families to seek counseling amid rising concerns.
