In a bold move against alleged corruption in Maharashtra’s real estate sector, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has penned a strongly worded letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The letter demands the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the massive land scam in Mira-Bhayandar, a bustling suburban area near Mumbai.

Somaiya, known for his relentless pursuit of graft allegations, has accused local authorities and builders of colluding in illegal land dealings worth crores. He claims that prime plots were illegally converted and sold, depriving the public exchequer of huge revenues. ‘This is a clear case of loot in broad daylight,’ Somaiya stated in his letter, urging immediate action to unearth the full extent of the irregularities.

The Mira-Bhayandar land scam has been simmering for years, with complaints piling up about forged documents, unauthorized constructions, and bribes to officials. Residents and activists have long alleged that municipal bodies turned a blind eye, allowing developers to grab government and gaothan lands. Somaiya’s intervention comes at a time when the state government is cracking down on urban land mafias.

Highlighting specific instances, Somaiya pointed to several high-profile plots where land use was changed without proper approvals. He has attached evidence including revenue records and witness statements to bolster his demand for a high-level probe. The letter warns that without a dedicated SIT, the scam’s masterminds would escape justice.

Chief Minister Fadnavis, who heads the home portfolio, is under pressure to respond decisively. Political observers note that this could be a litmus test for the BJP’s anti-corruption stance, especially ahead of local elections. Somaiya has vowed to escalate the matter to the Governor if no action is taken within a week.

The development has sparked debates on governance in rapidly urbanizing areas like Mira-Bhayandar. With Mumbai’s real estate prices skyrocketing, such scams erode public trust and fuel black money flows. As the letter goes viral on social media, citizens are calling for transparency and accountability in land dealings.
