Authorities have arrested Mathiyazhagan, the district secretary of the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in relation to the tragic stampede in Karur. The stampede claimed the lives of 41 people and injured 60 others. Mathiyazhagan is facing charges of murder, culpable homicide, and endangering public safety. The arrest is a result of an ongoing investigation into the incident, which occurred during a TVK rally. The FIR names Mathiyazhagan as the primary accused. Other TVK officials, including Bussy Anand and Nirmal Kumar, are also implicated in the FIR. They are charged with culpable homicide, endangering life, and disobedience to orders. The FIR places blame on the party and actor-politician Vijay, citing the delayed appearance of Vijay as a contributing factor, as the increased crowd attempted to get a better view of the actor, leading to a collapse of structures and the resulting stampede.
