The Karnataka cabinet saw the dismissal of Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna following his dissent over the handling of voter list irregularities, which led to a divergence in opinion with the party’s position, particularly regarding Rahul Gandhi’s allegations. Rajanna submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, which was accepted by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot. The controversy centered on Rajanna’s remarks about discrepancies in the Mahadevapura constituency’s voter list, which he noted happened during the Congress government’s time, contradicting Rahul Gandhi’s accusations of vote theft against the current ruling party. Rajanna’s stance was perceived as contrary to the current narrative of the Congress, prompting criticism from Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. This led to speculation that the Congress high command intervened, directing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to remove Rajanna from his ministerial post. Rahul Gandhi had earlier accused the BJP of vote manipulation, citing Mahadevapura in Bengaluru Central, where he claimed over 100,000 fake voters were listed. Rajanna responded by questioning the party’s lack of action when the voter list revisions were made during their governance. KN Rajanna, a prominent figure in Karnataka politics and a close ally of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, held the Cooperation Minister portfolio. Born on April 13, 1951, in Tumkur Taluk, Karnataka, he holds BSc and LLB degrees. He has been actively involved in cooperative initiatives since 1972. Rajanna’s political career includes being a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council in 1998 and an MLA from Madhugiri, where he won elections in 2013 and 2023. He has also served as a director for various financial institutions and held positions in local governance and agricultural committees.
