Bengaluru, February 26 – Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Thursday firmly distanced himself from the ongoing leadership tug-of-war within the Congress party, emphasizing that he has no intention of fueling confusion over the chief minister’s post.
Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara acknowledged the vocal demands from his supporters for him to take the helm as CM but insisted that the final call rests solely with the party high command. ‘I don’t want to create any more trouble or confusion in the state,’ he stated candidly, highlighting his reluctance to engage in the brewing controversy.
The minister’s comments come amid heightened speculation following his earlier remarks on Wednesday, where he defended his supporters’ advocacy as natural and reiterated his proven track record of competence. However, Parameshwara urged restraint, noting that he has repeatedly asked his well-wishers to tone down their public displays of support, even scolding them at times.
‘I haven’t lobbied for the position or visited Delhi for that purpose,’ he clarified, underscoring his commitment to party discipline. Parameshwara stressed that while party workers and fans may express their emotions freely, it is the high command’s prerogative to decide at the appropriate time. ‘No need for over-analysis; the leadership will act when necessary,’ he added.
On the separate issue of Dalit representation in the CM role, Parameshwara expressed openness, calling it acceptable for people to voice their sentiments. Shifting focus to pressing governance matters, he addressed the growing frustration among job-seeking youth protesting outside government offices.
Parameshwara revealed that the cabinet is actively discussing ways to fill vacant positions, recognizing the severity of youth unemployment. ‘We promised 2.5 lakh government jobs in our manifesto, and we’re committed to delivering them gradually,’ he said. Delays due to internal reservation disputes have slowed progress, but approvals are in place, with notifications for 15,000 home department vacancies set to be issued soon.
As Karnataka navigates internal party dynamics and administrative challenges, Parameshwara’s measured stance signals a push for stability, leaving the leadership question firmly in the hands of the national leadership.
