The Karnataka Cabinet has voted to increase the reservation quota for minority communities in housing schemes from 10 percent to 15 percent. Minister HK Patil clarified that this action does not necessitate the creation of new regulations. The expanded reservation will encompass all minority groups, including Christians, Jains, and Buddhists. The announcement drew criticism from BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya, who condemned the move as “brazen,” “illegal,” and “unconstitutional” on social media platforms. Malviya claimed the Congress government is prioritizing short-term political gains by fostering division and discord among the state’s communities. This new reservation policy will be applied to all housing programs managed by the Urban and Rural Development Departments across Karnataka.
