The Uttar Pradesh government’s directive requiring businesses along the Kanwar Yatra route to display licenses and owner information has ignited a political controversy. The opposition has strongly condemned the move. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak defended the regulations, citing consumer rights. Senior Minister OP Rajbhar stated that the government aims to maintain peace during the festival. Shama Mohamed, a Congress spokesperson, criticized the directive as a diversionary tactic. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi questioned the timing and rationale behind the new rules. The Kanwar Yatra, a significant Hindu pilgrimage, involves devotees carrying water to Lord Shiva temples.
