A father in Kanpur’s Barra 8 area has sparked significant attention by protesting the poor road conditions that led to his daughter’s accident. The daughter fell into a water-filled pothole while on her way to school near Ram Gopal Chowk. The father, expressing his distress, protested by lying in the muddy water, bringing the issue of civic negligence to the forefront. As bystanders watched, and traffic slowed, the father explained that his action was a desperate measure to highlight the ongoing risks to children and the failure of authorities to maintain the roads. Protesters joined, chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” Local residents have been appealing to the councillors, MLA, MP and municipal officials to repair the road from Ram Gopal Chowk to Anand South City, but in vain. This vital route, connecting Barra and Gujaini, continues to be in disrepair and has caused several accidents, including one involving an elderly man last year.
