In a decisive strike against corruption, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector Mukhtar Ahmad Khan from Bemina Police Station. The officer was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant during an ongoing investigation.
The incident unfolded when Khan allegedly demanded illegal gratification from the complainant to avoid harassment in a case registered under the First Information Report (FIR). Sources reveal that the sub-inspector had threatened the individual with adverse action if the money wasn’t paid.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, ACB launched a probe and verified the allegations. A formal case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. To nab the culprit, a trap team was deployed, leading to Khan’s capture in the act of taking the tainted cash in the presence of independent witnesses.
The recovered bribe money was immediately seized, and the accused was taken into custody. ACB officials emphasized that such operations aim to instill accountability and integrity among public servants. They vowed zero tolerance for bribery and corruption, promising rapid action in all similar cases.
This bust has sent shockwaves through the local administration, reinforcing that no one is above the law. The complainant praised the bureau’s prompt response, highlighting public faith in anti-graft agencies. Investigations continue to uncover any other instances of misconduct by the officer, marking this as a pivotal moment for law enforcement in the region.
