Jammu and Kashmir police have registered a case against seven individuals accused of duping numerous jobless youth with false promises of securing government jobs. The scam, which came to light after several complaints surfaced in the region, has left dozens of families in financial ruin.

The accused allegedly posed as influential officials with connections in various government departments. They targeted desperate young people from rural areas, charging hefty sums ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh per candidate. Victims were lured with guarantees of plum positions in police, education, and health sectors.

According to police sources, the fraudsters operated through social media groups and word-of-mouth networks. They even issued fake appointment letters and identity cards to build credibility. One victim recounted paying Rs 2 lakh for a ‘confirmed’ constable post, only to be ghosted after the payment.

The FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating, criminal breach of trust, and forgery. Raids are underway to apprehend the suspects, who are reportedly absconding. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a surge in such employment rackets amid high unemployment rates among the educated youth.

Authorities have urged the public to verify job offers through official channels only. The police have also set up a helpline for reporting similar frauds. This case underscores the growing vulnerability of job seekers in regions plagued by economic distress.
