A bizarre incident in Saraikela, Jharkhand, has brought a case involving a husband, wife, and the wife’s boyfriend into the spotlight. The local panchayat, in a surprising move, decided to send the wife away with her boyfriend in the presence of her husband. A fine was also imposed on the boyfriend. Remarkably, the police were not allowed to intervene. The incident took place in Palashdih village, under the RIT police station area.
According to sources, the boyfriend and another individual were caught by villagers when they went to meet the married woman. A panchayat was then convened. The panchayat decided to send the woman with her boyfriend, with the husband present. The villagers strongly opposed any police involvement.
A young man from Chandil’s Chilgu Panchayat, along with his friend, arrived in Sitrampur’s Palashdih on Monday night in a car to meet his girlfriend. As they were taking the woman away in the car, the villagers surrounded them. The boyfriend and his friend were dragged out of the car and beaten. Afterward, the woman and the two men were taken hostage.
Upon receiving information, SDPO Sameer Kumar Savaiya and RIT police station in-charge Vinay Kumar Singh, along with their teams, arrived at the scene. They tried to reason with the villagers. The villagers argued that it was a social issue and opposed police intervention. The police had to step back due to the strong resistance, but remained at the site to prevent any untoward incidents.
As per social custom, a meeting of the village assembly was held. Following the meeting, all parties departed with mutual consent. The panchayats of the woman’s in-laws, parents, and her boyfriend’s village sat together. The decision that was made by the panchayat, which lasted all day, shocked the woman’s husband. The lover was fined a lakh, and the woman was allowed to leave with her lover. Then, the woman was divorced there and sent with her lover. The case is now making headlines everywhere.
