Residents of Kukahi village in Palamu district are reeling after a horrifying home invasion where a teacher couple endured a four-hour reign of terror by armed dacoits. On Thursday night, around 15 criminals descended upon the home of Mrityunjay Mehta, a teacher, and his wife Anita Devi. The couple was bound and subjected to intense fear and violence as the intruders searched their residence. The dacoits, brandishing pistols, knives, and rods, forcibly took cash, gold, silver, and other valuables. In a particularly audacious act, the criminals demanded food and forced the couple to cook for them during their extended stay. The terrifying incident, which began around 11 PM, concluded in the early morning hours of Friday when the dacoits fled after issuing death threats. The alarm was raised by the victims, leading to their immediate hospitalization and a police investigation. The sub-divisional police officer also visited the scene. The community has criticized the perceived sluggish response and inadequate security, pointing to the lengthy duration of the dacoity as a clear indicator of security deficiencies in the region.
