Caste Survey: Government of Jharkhand will conduct ethnic survey in the state in the next financial year. Deepak Birua, Minister of Revenue, Land Reforms and Transport Department of Jharkhand, gave this information in the assembly on Monday.
On a question asked by the Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Yadav about the caste census in the state, the minister said that the state government is fully committed to conducting caste survey. The responsibility of ensuring how to conduct ethnic survey has been entrusted to the personnel and administrative department of the state. (Caste Survey)
During the proceedings of the current budget session of the Jharkhand Assembly, Pradeep Yadav questioned that a decision was taken to conduct an ethnic survey in the cabinet meeting on 12 February 2024. After this decision, one year and a month has passed, in such a situation, the government should tell what work has been done so far?

He also added that a state like Telangana decided to conduct a caste survey from us later and there was a report in February. Responding to the government, Minister Deepak Birua said that the work of conducting caste census is of the central government, but our government will start the work of caste survey in the next financial year. For this, the process of deciding which agency will be given responsibility is going on.
Later, while talking to the media outside the House, Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Yadav said that the caste census is not just a census, but the society’s report. This not only shows the number of castes, but this picture also comes out which castes and which people are standing in the society. (Caste Survey)
This helps in taking effective steps towards the development of Dalits, backward, minorities. The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Congress had promised to conduct caste census in the state even in their election manifestos before the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Just before the Lok Sabha elections, the state cabinet also passed a decision to this effect.
