Criminals in Jharkhand continue to operate with impunity, as evidenced by a recent robbery at the Tumdegi Church in the Simdega district. A gang of approximately 10-12 masked individuals, armed with weapons, carried out a robbery inside the church, making off with around 3.50 lakh rupees. The Dean and Parish Priest, Thomas Soreng, and the Assistant Parish Priest, Emmanuel Baghwar, were violently attacked when they attempted to stop the robbery and are now hospitalized with serious injuries. Medical treatment is ongoing at the Sadar Hospital in Simdega, under the care of the Civil Surgeon. The attack occurred late Tuesday, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. The SP of Simdega district, along with the DSP, SDPO, and other officials, arrived at the hospital to gather information and assess the situation. The police have begun a full investigation and are actively working to capture the suspects. The community is shaken by this act of violence. Local residents and community leaders are demanding the immediate arrest of the criminals and increased police presence to protect religious sites and ensure the safety of rural areas. This attack follows a similar incident in June 2025, where five masked criminals robbed the Samsera Church in the Bolba police station area. They stole approximately six lakh rupees and brutally assaulted people, forcing them to chant religious slogans. The frequency of these incidents is causing widespread concern and poses a significant challenge to the authorities.
