Palamu’s MGNREGA workers are pressing for job regularization, submitting a formal request to the Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC). A union delegation met the DDC, seeking to have their claims presented to the internal committee established to review contract worker regularization. Their memorandum underscores the commitment and years of service rendered by MGNREGA personnel, who play a vital role in rural progress but remain without job security. Pankaj Singh, leading the delegation, highlighted the disparity where contract employees in other state departments are being regularized, while MGNREGA staff are seemingly excluded. The union’s state convener, Devendra Upadhyay, called for a serious review of their long-standing demands and expressed optimism about positive steps toward regularization. The union has signaled that further agitation might be necessary should their concerns not be addressed promptly.
