In a shocking incident at Ranchi’s historic Dol Mela, a speeding car plowed into a dense crowd, claiming two lives and leaving 12 others injured. The tragedy unfolded in the Tatisilwai area on Saturday, the third day of the popular fair that draws thousands from nearby villages.
The vehicle, coming from Angara, suddenly lost control and barreled straight into festival-goers enjoying street food stalls and games. Eyewitnesses described a scene of utter chaos as the car mowed down several people, sparking panic reminiscent of a stampede. Bhola Sharma from Angara and Reema Kumari from Angara Milan Chowk were identified as the victims who succumbed to their injuries.
Among the wounded are Pappu Saw, Sulochana Devi, Rashmi Kumari, Poonam Kumari, Aruna Ekka, Tara Devi, Roshni Kumari, Monika Devi, and Ayush, with several in critical condition. Local hospitals are overwhelmed, and the seriously hurt have been rushed to RIMS for advanced care.
Furious locals blocked Ranchi Khelgaon Road and Ranchi-Muri Road, placing the bodies at Bank Mor Chowk in protest. They demand strict action against the driver and compensation for the bereaved families.
This isn’t the first such mishap in Ranchi. Just last February, a black Thar SUV killed one and injured five in a similar reckless driving episode, leading to the owner’s arrest. Rising accidents highlight the urgent need for stricter traffic controls in crowded areas during festivals. Authorities must step up to prevent future heartbreak.
