The Jharkhand government is facing severe criticism from opposition leader Babulal Marandi, who alleges a systematic effort to conceal criminal activities by inventing new offenses. Marandi, the BJP State President, claims that the administration and its operational framework have adopted a pattern of fabricating crimes to obscure the true extent of wrongdoing in the state. Significant evidence has emerged from recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigations into the deep-rooted coal mafia network in Dhanbad. A particularly disturbing element is the alleged instruction from ‘senior police officers,’ whose fortunes are linked to illicit coal earnings, to have key operatives within the mafia ‘eliminated permanently.’ This sinister plot is reportedly designed to prevent any testimony that could expose the truth, especially from individuals cooperating with the ED’s inquiries. Reports indicate that persons being questioned by the ED are now facing planned assassinations to ensure the suppression of facts. The practice of staging ‘evidence encounters’ to eliminate inconvenient truths has been observed in Jharkhand before. The state has a past involving a Director General of Police allegedly involved in contract killings and record-breaking corruption, a figure even allies have condemned. The ED is strongly advised to maintain utmost caution. In Jharkhand’s current climate, those who suppress truth wield influence. When political power, systemic structures, and criminal syndicates operate in unison, the demise of justice is tragically predictable.
