North India Faces Wind Gusts Up to 70 km/h as Rain Returns on Oct 4

The monsoon has largely withdrawn from most of northern India, leaving clear skies and a noticeable dip in temperature during early mornings and evenings. However, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for several states on 4 October, warning of scattered showers, thunderstorms and wind speeds that could reach 70 kilometres per hour.

In the capital, Delhi, the day is expected to stay sunny with a high of 36 °C and a low of 23 °C. Similar clear conditions are forecast for 5 and 6 October, while 7 to 9 October may see partly‑cloudy skies.

The IMD alert list covers a swath of districts across Uttar Pradesh – including Gorakhpur, Siddharthnagar, Shravasti, Sitapur, Balrampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Mau, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Agra, Mathura, Meerut and Ghaziabad – where moderate to heavy rain is possible. Bihar and Jharkhand districts are also under heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings. Seven districts in Punjab, several districts in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal have been placed under similar alerts.

In the northeast, Assam and Meghalaya may experience thunderstorms with rain, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura could see isolated convective activity. The southern states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry have been warned of heavy rain in select locations.

Mountain regions are not immune: large parts of Uttarakhand, as well as Himachal Pradesh districts such as Kullu, Mandi, Kangra, Solan, Chamba, Hamirpur and Bilaspur, are under moderate rain and thunderstorm alerts. Jammu & Kashmir also expects heavy rain and strong gusts.

Residents in the affected states are advised to stay updated with local bulletins, avoid travel in exposed areas during peak wind periods and take precautions against flooding.
