Chainpur block, near Medininagar in Palamu, is under siege from nilgai, with over 50 acres of farmland suffering extensive crop damage. Farmers report that herds of nilgai are systematically destroying their crops, including mustard, rye, gram, and potatoes, on a daily basis. Despite personal vigilance and overnight guarding, farmers are unable to safeguard their produce. The Forest Department’s alleged lack of intervention has fueled farmer discontent. Representatives from villages such as Kolhua, Karamdih, Mahuliya, Kektuva, and Parsia have formally petitioned the Divisional Forest Officer in Medininagar, urging immediate action. The destruction is so severe that some farmers have been compelled to cease cultivation, leading to profound financial difficulties and emotional distress as they face ruined fields. There is widespread resentment towards the authorities for not addressing this critical issue.
