Preparations for the 2026 general municipal elections in West Singhbhum district have kicked into high gear. On Thursday, a comprehensive training session for counting personnel wrapped up at Scott Hindi Balika Middle School in Chaibasa. The event underscored the administration’s commitment to flawless execution of the vote-counting process.
District Election Officer (Municipal) and Deputy Commissioner Chandan Kumar, Superintendent of Police Amit Renu, and General Observer for Chaibasa Municipal Council area Ejaz Anwar personally inspected the training sessions across various classrooms. They issued clear directives to ensure every step aligns with electoral protocols.
Joining them were Deputy Development Commissioner Utkarsh Kumar, ITDA Project Director Jaydeep Tigga, Establishment Deputy Collector Kumar Harsh, and District Education Superintendent Praveen Kumar, alongside all master trainers. The officials hammered home the need for utmost impartiality, transparency, and peace during the counting.
‘The counting process is the cornerstone of our democratic framework,’ emphasized the leaders. ‘Every staff member must discharge their duties with the highest seriousness to uphold public trust.’
Trainees received detailed briefings on the schedule: counting for Chaibasa and Chakradharpur municipal areas will commence at 8 AM on February 27 at Women’s College, Chaibasa, following the recently concluded polling. A total of 168 personnel, including reserves and supervisors, have been deployed.
Hands-on modules covered critical procedures: displaying ballot boxes in the presence of candidates and agents, seal-breaking techniques, sorting ballots, and meticulous tallying. Strict adherence to guidelines on counting day was mandated to guarantee a smooth, dispute-free operation.
This rigorous preparation sets the stage for credible results, reinforcing the integrity of local governance in the region. As the district gears up, all eyes remain on delivering a model election process.
