In a chilling crime that has stunned Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district, a mother allegedly murdered her minor son on Rose Day, the first day of Valentine’s Week, after he caught her in a compromising position with her lover. The woman, fearing exposure of her illicit relationship, conspired with her paramour—her own nephew by relation—to strangle the boy and dump his body in a pond.
The incident unfolded in Ratanpur village under Borharwa police station limits on the night of February 7. Hemant Saha, the victim’s father, initially filed a complaint against unknown assailants, claiming his son Ayush Kumar had been killed by strangers. But police investigations revealed a darker truth.
Borharwa SDPO Nitin Khandelwal disclosed that Ayush had accidentally witnessed his mother, Meenu Devi, with her lover Rohit Saha in an intimate moment. The boy began objecting to the affair, which became a major hurdle for the couple. Terrified of the relationship being exposed, Meenu and Rohit hatched a sinister plan.
That fateful Rose Day night, they strangled the innocent child, leaving nail marks and strangulation signs on his neck. The duo then hid the body in bushes near a pond before staging it to look like a random murder, misleading villagers and initially the police.
The gruesome discovery has sparked outrage across the district. Police swiftly arrested Meenu Devi and Rohit Saha, unraveling the conspiracy. This isn’t an isolated case; just days earlier in Ranchi district’s Tamar area, a similar affair-fueled murder saw a woman and her husband poison a relative over romantic betrayal.
As Valentine’s Week celebrations continue, this tragedy serves as a grim reminder of how personal secrets can turn deadly. Authorities are urging communities to stay vigilant against such hidden dangers lurking in plain sight. The investigation continues, with forensic reports pending to seal the case.
