Monsoon Fury in Jharkhand: Deaths Mount Due to Floods, Lightning, and Snake Bites

The ongoing heavy rainfall in Jharkhand has led to widespread chaos and devastation, with residents facing severe challenges. Roads and residential areas are submerged, reflecting the impact of the extreme weather. On August 6th, a series of lightning strikes claimed seven lives across several districts. Palamu district saw four deaths, Torpa in Khunti district reported two, and one death was recorded in Chaibasa. In Palamu, three women died in a field due to lightning, while another person was killed by a strike while working in the field. In Torpa, a father and his child died while sheltering under a tree. The period from May 1st to July 31st witnessed over 400 fatalities across the state due to various natural calamities. Lightning strikes were responsible for approximately 180 deaths, while snakebites resulted in around 100 deaths. The remaining deaths were caused by drowning in floodwaters, and house collapses.
