A major lapse in medical care has been reported in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, where a government hospital refused to admit a pregnant woman, wrongly informing her that her unborn child had passed away. The woman later delivered a healthy baby at a private hospital, revealing a critical failure in the government healthcare system.

Vinod Saw, the woman’s husband, stated that they traveled 120 kilometers to reach the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital, only to be turned away by nurses who cited low hemoglobin levels and the alleged death of the fetus. Despite this, Vinod sought care at a private hospital in the district, where his wife gave birth to a healthy child. He expressed his gratitude to the private hospital’s medical team for ensuring a safe and successful delivery.

The incident has triggered an administrative response. Hazaribagh’s Deputy Commissioner, Shashi Prakash Singh, has ordered an investigation into the matter and instructed the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital to form a committee to probe the incident. The Deputy Commissioner stated that government hospitals are responsible for providing quality healthcare at affordable prices, but in this case, care was denied. Dr. Praveen Kumar, the owner of the private hospital, confirmed that after admitting Manisha, necessary tests were performed, and the results were satisfactory. Both the mother and the newborn are in good health.
