Authorities in Khunti district have intensified their fight against illegal sand trade with a successful operation in the Jariagarh area. Early Wednesday morning, police intercepted and seized six high-capacity trucks found transporting illegally mined sand near Buxpur. The implicated vehicles, bearing registration numbers JH01FD 2807, JH01 0634, JH01FR 0106, JH01FR 1260, JH01FM 1402, and JH02BQ 3032, are now in police custody pending further investigation and legal action. The Jariagarh region has for a considerable time been a focal point for illicit sand extraction and distribution. Despite objections from local inhabitants, the trade has reportedly been aided by certain individuals within the community. The recent police intervention was prompted by a late Tuesday night incident where villagers attempted to halt vehicles involved in the illegal trade. This led to a swift and decisive joint operation by forest officials and the police force. While a number of truck drivers managed to escape with their vehicles, the seizure of six trucks marks a significant success. Community members have welcomed the move but are advocating for persistent enforcement to dismantle the illegal sand syndicate operating in Jariagarh.
