An immediate investigation has been ordered by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren into a steel plant located in Ramgarh district, accused of causing severe environmental pollution. The state government’s action follows the circulation of a video on social media that appears to document extensive air pollution originating from the industrial facility.

The circulated footage, originally recorded by a resident, purportedly illustrates ash and dust fallout from the steel plant affecting nearby natural landscapes. The resident pointed out the fine particles becoming airborne, suggesting they are spreading to agricultural lands and forest reserves in the vicinity. The video also sarcastically suggested the factory was fertilizing the surroundings with its waste.

Chief Minister Soren acknowledged the gravity of the situation by reposting the video and declaring it “completely unacceptable.” He has mandated the Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner to conduct a swift and impartial probe. The directive includes taking appropriate enforcement actions based on environmental regulations and submitting a comprehensive report to the state government detailing the findings and measures taken.

Ramgarh district has been a focal point for environmental issues related to industrial activities. The area has a documented history of public grievances concerning industrial air and water pollution, alongside accusations that safety and environmental safeguards are routinely overlooked. The problem is compounded by ongoing reports of alleged illegal coal mining in and around Ramgarh, potentially fueling industrial activities and contributing to further ecological degradation.
