Ranchi witnessed a significant milestone in legislative digitization on Wednesday as Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) Service Center within the state assembly. This event unfolded during the fifth (budget) session of the sixth assembly in 2026, marking a bold step towards a paperless legislature.
In his address, Soren emphasized how the NeVA initiative ushers in a new era of efficiency. Lawmakers will no longer need to rush to the assembly late at night to file questions or handle paperwork. ‘This platform simplifies procedures, enhances transparency, and ensures timely execution of duties,’ he stated. The center promises streamlined operations for both legislators and staff, reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
Nearly 20 states across India have already embraced NeVA for digital governance. Jharkhand is now joining this progressive wave. During the program, MLAs received tablets along with comprehensive training on the application’s features, empowering them to fulfill responsibilities digitally. Future sessions will increasingly rely on this technology.
Soren drew parallels to everyday digital banking via mobiles, noting Jharkhand’s growth 25 years post-formation. Credit goes to the assembly speaker’s efforts in pushing for a paperless house. Better coordination and faster workflows are expected, minimizing paperwork stacks.
Acknowledging initial challenges, the CM highlighted organized training sessions. He stressed cybersecurity awareness to prevent tampering with documents amid rising cyber threats. ‘Vigilance is key in the digital realm,’ he added.
Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto and CM Soren personally handed over tablets to ministers and MLAs. The event saw participation from officials, lawmakers, and staff, signaling widespread support for modernization.
