A sweeping nationwide operation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has disrupted a major illegal cough syrup network, with key figures now under intense scrutiny. The primary target of these raids is Shubham Jaiswal, believed to be the central figure behind the illicit operation, alongside his associates Alok Singh and Amit Singh. The ED’s coordinated raids spanned several prominent locations, including Lucknow, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Jaunpur, Saharanpur, and Ranchi, indicating the extensive reach of the smuggling ring. In Lucknow, ED teams specifically conducted searches at the premises belonging to Alok Singh. The foundation for this aggressive enforcement action lies in over 30 FIRs lodged over the past two months. These reports detail clandestine activities involving the storage, transportation, distribution, and cross-border trafficking of codeine-based cough syrups. The investigation covers multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh, such as Lucknow, Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Saharanpur, and Ghaziabad, highlighting a significant challenge in controlling such illegal trades.
