Citizens are falling victim to a cunning scam that leverages the ration card e-KYC process to steal money. In a recent case, approximately Rs 3.69 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn from multiple bank accounts by exploiting the perceived need for e-KYC verification. Perpetrators are sending fake notifications, often via SMS or email, claiming that ration card details must be updated immediately to avoid deactivation. These messages often contain phishing links or direct individuals to fake portals where sensitive banking information is harvested. This alarming trend underscores the importance of official verification channels. Always confirm the authenticity of any request for personal or financial data, especially when related to government schemes. Stay informed and report suspicious activities to prevent further exploitation.
