Giridih police have successfully dismantled an online fraud ring, arresting five individuals believed to be part of a larger cybercriminal operation. The arrests were made following a tip-off from the Pratibimb portal regarding online scam activities occurring near the Baghra railway overbridge in Balidih, Gandey police station area. A special investigation team, led by Cyber Police Station Officer Rameshwar Bhagat, swiftly executed a raid, leading to the apprehension of the suspects. The main accused, Aftab Ansari, a resident of Jamtara, was identified as the leader of the group. During interrogation, the culprits confessed to their methods, which involved tricking people through deceptive mobile links and applications, and posing as bank personnel to steal money from accounts. The arrested individuals are Aftab Ansari, Parvej Ansari, Tafazul Ansari, Tabrez Ansari, and Niyaz Ansari, all from Jamtara and Deoghar. Law enforcement confiscated 12 mobile phones, including three high-end iPhones, and 15 SIM cards. Authorities suspect the group is connected to broader cyber networks operating out of Deoghar and Jamtara. The proceeds from their scams were channeled through fictitious bank accounts and later distributed in cash. Superintendent of Police Dr. Vimal Kumar reiterated the police department’s unwavering commitment to combating cybercrime with a zero-tolerance approach.
