Palamu district police are investigating the theft of an elephant valued at one crore rupees. The mahout has disappeared, taking the elephant with him. Law enforcement is working with the Forest Department to track the elephant using a built-in tracking chip. Narendra Kumar Shukla of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, reported the theft at the Medininagar Sadar police station. Shukla stated he received the elephant, named Jaymati, from Sangam Lal on a responsibility agreement. He brought the elephant to Jharkhand due to inadequate resources in his village. Munna Pandey and Munna Pathak were entrusted with the elephant’s care. They befriended Tarkeshwar Nath, who owned another elephant.

The group took the elephants to Jorkat, within the Medininagar Sadar police station jurisdiction. Shukla visited Palamu on August 11th and located the elephant and mahout in Jorkat. On August 13th, he returned to find both the elephant and mahout missing. He searched throughout Palamu and other areas of Jharkhand but was unsuccessful. Shukla filed a formal complaint after one month. Sadar police station in-charge Lalji confirmed that the elephant is valued at one crore rupees. The investigation is ongoing, and an FIR has been filed. The Forest Department is using the elephant’s tracking chip to determine its location.
