The case came to light when Babusol Baski’s brother-in-law, Chuhapani, was found dead. A complaint was promptly filed at Masalia police station, prompting an immediate investigation. Officers zeroed in on Manilal, who had been with the victim watching a football match on the night of the incident.
Initially, Manilal spun a tale of unknown assailants attacking them on their way back from the match, claiming Chuhapani died in the assault while he himself was injured. But under intense interrogation, his story unraveled. The truth emerged: simmering tensions over Manilal’s girlfriend, whom Chuhapani had been eyeing.
Three days prior, a village fair and football match drew crowds, including the two cousins. After the event, they consumed local liquor called handia. Alcohol-fueled arguments reignited old jealousies about the girlfriend, escalating into a violent brawl. In a moment of blind fury, Manilal grabbed a heavy stone nearby and smashed it into Chuhapani’s head, causing instant death at the scene.
To cover his tracks, Manilal fabricated the story of mysterious attackers. However, sharp police work exposed the lies.
