A significant discussion on safeguarding press credibility amidst a surge of fake news was held in Koderma’s Urwan, organized by the District Public Relations Office. Deputy Commissioner Rituraj, the chief guest, delivered a keynote address highlighting the far-reaching consequences of misinformation on individuals, society, and the nation. He expressed concern over the negative impacts of social media-centric reporting, which can be harmful to all. Rituraj advised journalists to practice due diligence through patient, alert, and pressure-free fact-checking to prevent errors. He praised the journalists of Koderma district for their high standards of journalism and their active role in social service. Journalists Shashi Singh and Jeb Akhtar, participating from Ranchi, emphasized the ethical and national obligations of reporters, calling for strict adherence to journalistic principles. They pointed out that the public’s reliance on journalists necessitates continuous professional development to maintain credibility. The growing dependence on social media platforms by journalists was flagged as a serious issue, as these platforms frequently become sources of misinformation, undermining genuine journalism. The event was formally initiated with a lamp-lighting ceremony involving the Deputy Commissioner and other prominent attendees.
