‘Center of Excellence for Sports’

◆ The hockey teams of Khunti’s “Project Utkarsh: Centre of Excellence for Sports” brought glory to the district by winning the Nehru Cup at the state level.

◆ Deputy Commissioner congratulated the players on their victory and said there is no dearth of talent in Khunti district, we just need to give it the right direction.

◆ The winning teams will now participate in the Nehru Cup organised at the national level.

Project Utkarsh: Center of Excellence for Sports, Khunti has achieved unprecedented success in the recently held Hockey State Level Nehru Cup Competition. In this competition, the Under-17 boys team performed brilliantly and secured first place in the entire Jharkhand state, while the Under-17 girls team also performed impressively and secured fourth place in the state.

Deputy Commissioner Lokesh Mishra congratulated the players for their victory. He said that there is no dearth of talent in Khunti district. We just need to give it the right direction. The players here are flying their flag in the country and abroad. Expressing hope for good performance in the future too, he wished everyone the best.

It is noteworthy that the boys team displayed its brilliant sporting talent and defeated Gumla team 1-0 in a shootout on 23-08-2024 and entered the final by defeating Ranchi team 5-0 in the semi-finals on the same day. In the final, the team won 4-1 against Simdega. On the other hand, the girls team defeated Chatra on 22-08-2024 and Garhwa on 23-08-2024 by 14-0 and 12-0 respectively. However, it lost 5-0 to Ranchi in the semi-finals on 23-08-2024 and lost 4-0 in the third place match against Hazaribagh on 24-08-2024.

Project Utkarsh is being run successfully in Khunti district under the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Lokesh Mishra. The objective of Project Utkarsh is to encourage local sports talent in Khunti district and provide them high level training facilities. Along with this, as per the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, good training is being given to the players by skilled trainers. So that they can perform better. The winning teams will now participate in the Nehru Cup organized at the national level.

Achieving these magnificent achievements within just 75 days of rigorous training reflects the effectiveness and commitment of all the officials, coaches and the organization involved. The aim of this project is to hone the talent of young players and promote the spirit of sportsmanship.
