A potential major disaster was averted in Bokaro following the partial collapse of a four-story building late Saturday night. The incident, which occurred in the Sector 1B HSCL Colony, part of the City Police Station area, saw the rear portion of the structure give way. Panic ensued, but thankfully, all occupants were able to get out safely before the collapse. The affected structure is situated between house numbers 351 and 366 in Sector 1B. Residents heard a sudden, loud noise as the aged and weakened building’s rear section fell. Neighbors quickly gathered, forming a substantial crowd at the scene. Local police, municipal officials, and civil defense personnel arrived promptly to manage the situation. The area has been cordoned off to ensure public safety, and nearby homes have been evacuated as a precaution. Many families found their belongings buried and chose to spend the night outdoors. The administration has launched relief operations and begun clearing the debris. A prominent local politician visited the affected families, offering support and advocating for temporary shelter arrangements at the Town Hall. The politician mentioned that previous concerns about the colony’s dilapidated state had not been addressed by the responsible management. An initial police assessment points to wall dampness and structural deficiencies as the primary causes of the collapse.
