In a shocking incident that has stunned Jharkhand’s Ranchi district, a woman allegedly poisoned her lover, her younger brother-in-law, to death after learning he was set to marry someone else. The tragic event unfolded in Lodhma village under Tamad police station, exposing the dark underbelly of illicit relationships in rural India.
Shankar Nayak, the victim, had been in a three-year affair with his cousin bhabhi, Geeta Devi, aged 35. After Shankar’s parents passed away, Geeta took over household chores at his home, which is when their relationship blossomed into romance. Tensions escalated when Shankar decided to break things off and marry elsewhere, infuriating Geeta.
Enraged by the betrayal, Geeta, along with her husband Baldev Machhua, hatched a deadly plan. They lured Shankar to their home under the pretense of serving him tea, mixing poison into the beverage. Shankar consumed it unsuspectingly and was rushed to a hospital in Jamshedpur, where he succumbed to the poison during treatment.
Police sprang into action following a complaint from Shankar’s brother Sukra Nayak. Led by Bundu SDPO, investigators used technical evidence to swiftly arrest Geeta and Baldev. The FIR also names their minor daughter as involved.
This murder comes just 48 hours after a similar gruesome killing in Sonahatu area, where Harihar Mahato was beheaded and mutilated by his lover Sulochana and her husband before dumping his body by a riverbank. Authorities are grappling with a rising wave of such crimes fueled by extramarital affairs in Ranchi’s outskirts, prompting calls for stricter vigilance and community awareness.
