    Ranchi, A meeting of the 36th Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Council was concluded today at the Chief Minister’s residential office located on Kanke Road, Ranchi, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren. An agreement was reached in the meeting regarding the release of 23 inmates serving life sentences in various jails of the state. In the meeting, along with the new cases recommended by the State Sentence Revision Council, 34 cases rejected in previous meetings related to release were also thoroughly reviewed. Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren, in light of the recommendation of the State Sentence Revision Council, discussed in detail point-wise the release proposal of 34 inmates serving life sentences, and finally agreed to the release of 23 inmates. The Chief Minister ensured that the release would be valid and appropriate from the perspective of judicial rules, social security, and jail acts, after reviewing the nature of the inmates’ crimes, and the opinions given by courts, Superintendents of Police of the concerned districts, Jail Superintendents, and Probation Officers. During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the preparation of a systematic database for the inmates to be released. He also said that an awareness campaign should be conducted with women’s self-help groups for the inmates who were accused of witchcraft and sorcery. The Chief Minister directed the officials to link the inmates to be released with the government’s welfare schemes, ensure their income generation and social rehabilitation, and fix the special responsibility of the designated district coordinators for their livelihood at the district level.The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shri Avinash Kumar, Principal Secretary, Home, Jail and Disaster Management Department Smt. Vandana Dadel, DGP Smt. Tadasha Mishra, Principal Secretary-Legal Advisor, Law Department Shri Neeraj Kumar Srivastava, Inspector General, Prisons and Correctional Services Shri Sudarshan Prasad Mandal, Judicial Commissioner Shri Anil Kumar Mishra, and other officials.
