In a shocking incident from Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, a self-proclaimed tantric healer has been arrested for raping a minor girl. The 57-year-old man, Pandey Nag from Mundasai village under Jagannathpur police station, lured a family with promises of curing their sick child through mystical rituals.
Nag was invited to the family’s home in Todanghatu village. He performed a sham puja for several hours before sending the victim’s mother and brother away on the pretext of immersing ritual materials. Left alone with the minor girl, he committed the heinous act.
Upon returning, the mother and brother found the girl in tears, recounting the assault. The family was devastated as the accused fled the scene. The mother lodged a formal complaint at Jagannathpur police station on March 1, leading to swift action.
A special team led by SDPO Rafael Murmu conducted raids and apprehended Nag on Monday. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. The victim underwent medical examination, and her statement is being recorded as per legal protocols. Authorities have initiated provisions for legal aid and psychological counseling to support her through the judicial process.
Police have registered the case under POCSO Act and stringent IPC sections. Officials assure a speedy filing of chargesheet and fast-tracked hearing to deliver justice. This case underscores the dangers of unregulated faith healers exploiting vulnerable families in rural India.
