In a heartbreaking incident that has shocked the Bokaro district of Jharkhand, a young couple was discovered hanging from a tree, apparently despondent after their families delayed their marriage. The tragic event unfolded in Murpa village under the Chatro Chatti police station limits, where villagers stumbled upon the bodies on Thursday.
Local residents were stunned when they saw the lifeless bodies of a man and a woman suspended from the same tree with ropes around their necks. Word spread quickly, creating a wave of panic in the area. Police rushed to the scene shortly after being alerted and took charge of the investigation.
The deceased were identified as Savitri Kumari, a resident of Murpa village, and Phoolchand Manjhi from Dumariya Tand village in Hazaribagh district’s Vishnugrad police station area. According to preliminary reports, the pair had been in a relationship for a long time and were eager to tie the knot.
They had been pressuring their families to approve the union, but both sides requested more time, promising to arrange the wedding in about a year. This apparent postponement seems to have pushed the lovers to the edge. Just a day before Holi, on Tuesday, they left their homes claiming they were going to see the Sarhul fair and never returned.
Family members searched frantically for two days without any leads. The bodies were eventually found near Murpa village. By the time police arrived, locals had already brought the bodies down. Officers seized the remains and sent them for post-mortem examination.
A somber atmosphere engulfs the village as relatives mourn the loss. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide at first glance, but a thorough probe is underway. The post-mortem report will provide clarity on the exact cause of death. This tragedy underscores the emotional turmoil young couples face when societal and familial pressures clash with their desires.
