In a significant development for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the Janata Dal (United) has announced its first list of 57 candidates. This selection has immediately created a headache for ally Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), as the JD(U) has named contenders for four seats previously sought by the LJP(RV). This strategic move by CM Nitish Kumar’s party signals a strong assertion of its position within the NDA coalition, potentially complicating seat-sharing talks. The list features five prominent ministers from the current government, including Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Shravan Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Kaushal Kishore, and Maheshwar Hazari, ensuring experienced representation. It also includes figures with strong ground presence, like Anant Singh contesting from Mokama, a seat that has garnered considerable political focus. Other key figures nominated include state president Umesh Khushwaha and Narendra Narayan Yadav. The JD(U) has also made adjustments, such as a replacement in Kusheshwarsthan and a withdrawal in Barbigha. With the elections slated for November 6 and 11 and results on November 14, the JD(U)’s decisive candidate announcement puts pressure on its allies to finalize their own arrangements within the alliance framework.
