In a dramatic showdown late last night in Shahganj, Jaunpur district, local police engaged in a fierce gunfight with a gang of notorious criminals. The operation, which unfolded on the outskirts of the town, resulted in the arrest of two key accused after an exchange of heavy fire.
According to police sources, the encounter began when a special team from the Shahganj police station received a tip-off about the presence of wanted criminals in the area. Known for multiple heists and armed robberies, the gang was reportedly planning another strike. Officers swiftly cordoned off the location near a secluded warehouse, leading to the confrontation around 11 PM.
Eyewitnesses described hearing bursts of gunfire echoing through the quiet neighborhood, prompting residents to take cover. Reinforcements arrived promptly, turning the tables on the outlaws. Two suspects, identified as Ravi Kushwaha (28) and Manoj Yadav (32), both with extensive criminal records including dacoity and attempt to murder, were overpowered and taken into custody with minor injuries.
Weapons recovered from the scene include two country-made pistols, live ammunition, and stolen cash worth over Rs 2 lakh. The duo confessed during initial questioning to involvement in several recent robberies plaguing the region.
