In a decisive move to uphold public order, Jammu and Kashmir Police sealed a hotel in Nagrota’s Ban area on Thursday following reports of illicit activities. The establishment, known as Hotel Gossip, was allegedly serving as a hub for young couples seeking private rooms in a residential neighborhood, sparking outrage among locals.
Authorities acted swiftly on credible intelligence. A joint team comprising the Nagrota Station House Officer and the Executive Magistrate conducted a thorough inspection. They discovered two young couples with booked rooms and detained them along with hotel staff for questioning.
The raid exposed how the hotel, masquerading as a simple eatery, had become a nuisance, disturbing residents and challenging community morals. Local complaints had mounted over time, highlighting threats to peace and social harmony.
The Executive Magistrate promptly ordered the sealing of the premises to curb such unlawful conduct. Preventive actions were initiated under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the owner, manager, and those in custody. Police sources indicate the owner has been summoned for further interrogation.
Residents of Ban expressed relief and commended the police action. ‘We’ve been worried about these secretive operations under the guise of a restaurant for months,’ said one local. This incident underscores the police’s commitment not just to preventing anti-social behavior but also to fostering a responsible society.
