Following the tragic suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, Rahul Gandhi has spoken out forcefully, asserting that the incident is emblematic of the discrimination faced by Dalits and demanding accountability from the authorities. Meeting Kumar’s family in Chandigarh, Gandhi highlighted the officer’s service and questioned the extent of pressure that could lead to such a devastating outcome. He accused the state police of engaging in selective discrimination to undermine Kumar’s career, calling for immediate action against the officers involved. Gandhi addressed Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, urging him to fulfill his duty towards the state’s Dalit population. The Congress leader emphasized that the late officer’s demise is not merely a personal loss but a blow to the honor of the entire Dalit community, underscoring a disturbing message that injustice remains a threat to Dalits irrespective of their status. He also raised concerns about the pressure on Kumar’s daughters and called for national leaders to support the family.
