New Delhi erupted in a chorus of condemnation on Sunday after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israel strike. Political figures across India united in denouncing the attack, expressing deep alarm over escalating tensions in the Middle East that could spiral into a broader conflict.

BJP Telangana Minority Morcha spokesperson Mir Firasat Ali Bakri led the tributes, visiting the Iranian Cultural Office to pay respects. ‘The cowardly assault by America and Israel on Khamenei is reprehensible,’ he declared. ‘This loss affects not just the Muslim community but all of India. No words can fill this void, and we condemn it in the strongest terms.’

Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj linked the strike to the failure of global institutions. ‘When the UN, WTO, and Security Council falter, nations resort to war,’ he said. Bharadwaj blamed the rise of right-wing forces worldwide for weakening these bodies, warning of dire consequences.

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara invoked history, stating, ‘We haven’t seen such aggression since World War II. Countries targeting leaders threatens humanity—escalation must stop now.’

The high-profile assassination has sent shockwaves across the region, marking a potential turning point in Iran’s 46-year Shia theocratic rule. With Tehran vowing retaliation, fears of a massive regional war intensify. World leaders are urging restraint and diplomatic intervention to avert catastrophe, as new hostilities flare in parts of the Middle East.
