In a significant boost to bilateral relations, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi highlighted growing cooperation between India and Sri Lanka during a key meeting in Colombo. Led by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, the delegation engaged in productive discussions with Sri Lanka’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath.

The talks centered on the overwhelming public response in Sri Lanka to the sacred relic exhibition of Lord Buddha’s Devenimori remains. Sanghvi expressed deep gratitude for the profound devotion shown by the Sri Lankan people, underscoring the shared spiritual heritage that binds the two nations.

Key focus areas included enhancing people-to-people contacts and expanding tourism collaboration. Both sides agreed that increased tourism exchanges would not only drive economic growth but also foster deeper cultural ties. ‘This exhibition’s success reflects our enduring civilizational links,’ Sanghvi noted.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Sanghvi shared photos of the meeting, emphasizing how the dialogue aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. The conversation aimed to build on recent successes, paving the way for more joint initiatives in tourism and beyond.

As India and Sri Lanka navigate regional challenges, such high-level interactions signal a commitment to mutual prosperity. With Buddhism’s shared legacy at the forefront, these efforts promise to invigorate bilateral relations in the years ahead.
