India is gearing up for its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025. The Prime Minister will lead the celebrations by hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort in New Delhi, followed by his address to the nation. The theme for this year’s Independence Day is ‘Naya Bharat,’ signifying the government’s commitment to the ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision, with the goal of a developed India by 2047.
Upon arrival at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi will be received by the Defence Minister, Minister of State for Defence, and Defence Secretary. The Defence Secretary will introduce Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, the GOC of the Delhi area, to the Prime Minister. The celebrations will highlight Operation Sindoor, with its logo and floral arrangements at Gyanpath. Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist the Prime Minister in the flag hoisting, followed by a flower petal shower from two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force, one carrying the national flag and the other the ‘Operation Sindoor’ flag.
The aircraft will be piloted by Wing Commanders Vinay Poonia and Aditya Jaiswal. After the Prime Minister’s address, the National Anthem will be sung by NCC cadets and ‘My Bharat’ volunteers. Around 2,500 cadets and volunteers will form the ‘Naya Bharat’ logo. The Red Fort will host approximately 5,000 special guests, including participants from the Special Olympics 2025, winners of international sports events, and recognized farmers. Representatives from various government programs will also attend.
These include beneficiaries of the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission, young authors, skilled youth, entrepreneurs, and students. To amplify patriotic fervor, band performances will be held nationwide on Independence Day evening, led by military and paramilitary bands. The government is also highlighting Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 as a response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The government also sent delegations to various countries to address cross-border terrorism. The Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan has been successful in cultivating national patriotic spirit.
The Ministry of Culture is coordinating the fourth Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, inspiring citizens to display the Indian flag in their homes. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat noted that over 5 lakh youths have registered as volunteers for the campaign. The campaign will involve collaborations with state governments, educational institutions, and community organizations. The celebrations will conclude on August 15, 2025, with the widespread display of the Tiranga, symbolizing national pride and unity.
