New Delhi, February 9: A controversial social media video linked to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ignited a fierce political firestorm. Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi sharply criticized the CM, asserting that his language starkly contradicts the constitutional oath he took. ‘This is poisoning the national atmosphere,’ Pratapgarhi declared in an exclusive interview.
The MP didn’t hold back, labeling Sarma as ‘Prime Minister’s favorite CM’ who seems intent on vitiating the country’s mood. ‘I’m shocked that PM is witnessing this or pretending not to see. He must act against such individuals to prove respect for the Constitution,’ he urged.
Pointing to the timing, Pratapgarhi highlighted how while PM Modi was meeting Malaysia’s head of state, Assam BJP posted a video that he claims incites against the Constitution, democracy, and even promotes genocide-like rhetoric. ‘Why hasn’t BJP acted on their darling CM? Why no suo motu notice from Supreme Court? BJP owes an explanation,’ he demanded, directly questioning PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and others on whether this is the party’s official stance.
He expressed dismay over media silence, noting that if an opposition CM had uttered such words—described as fascist, dictatorial, and terrorist-like—no prime time debate would ignore it. ‘This issue vanished from media radar overnight,’ Pratapgarhi lamented.
Targeting Assam government, he questioned the SIT’s role: ‘Are they just holding press conferences, or will they present evidence against Sarma? This back-and-forth of accusations is pure electoral drama,’ he alleged. The controversy underscores deepening political divides ahead of elections, with calls for accountability growing louder.
