Guwahati transformed into a sea of yellow on Vasant Panchami as schools and colleges across the city came alive with devotion to Goddess Saraswati. Thousands of students and teachers gathered in pandals adorned with vibrant marigolds, lighting lamps and participating in sacred yagnas to invoke the blessings of the goddess of knowledge.

The air buzzed with chants of ‘Jai Saraswati Mata’ as young minds sought divine intervention for academic success. In one bustling pandal at a prominent college, students formed long queues to offer prayers, their faces lit with hope ahead of upcoming board exams. ‘This puja gives us the confidence to excel,’ shared a Class 10 student, folding hands before the idol draped in yellow silk.

Teachers joined the fervor, emphasizing the festival’s role in their professional lives. ‘Saraswati is the source of our wisdom and career growth. Her grace brings peace and prosperity,’ said a veteran educator. Priests highlighted the auspiciousness of the day, noting that offerings of yellow flowers and sweets ensure knowledge, happiness, and abundance.

From Assam’s heart to temples nationwide, Vasant Panchami heralded spring’s arrival. North India’s shrines overflowed with devotees offering yellow delicacies, while southern sanctuaries echoed with Vedic hymns. In Guwahati, the celebrations underscored a timeless tradition: uniting communities in pursuit of enlightenment and triumph over exams.
